I recently discovered this sweet little dress in my pile of ‘needs to be finished’. I started sewing this for my daughter before the holidays and then stuck it aside to sew buttons on the back and completely forgot about it. Since my sweet girl is in real need of some new duds, it is my Friday goal to sew some button holes and get some buttons on this baby! The dress pattern is the Geranium Dress by Made by Rae. This is a very simple dress pattern that is a quick sew and is absolutely adorable on girls. The fabric I used (and was approved by my daughter) is called Catnap by Lizzy House.
As for the buttons, I’m not quite sure what color I will choose. Maybe something bright and colorful that doesn’t match at all! My girl doesn’t love to match clothing right now and I celebrate that as I think matching clothes is sometimes pretty boring.
I inherited my grandmother and mothers button collections. They both had a lot! I think my grandmother had been saving hers for years as there are some wonderful vintage buttons in the stash. Every time I add a button from their collections I feel sentimental and blessed that they may have a small part in each garment I make.

Both my mother and grandmother have passed away. The three of us have always had strong ties to clothing. My grandmother was a depression era baby. She never wasted a thing her entire life. I remember going to her house as I was growing up and she had our old clothing hanging around, or my mothers, or even articles of clothing from her youth. I remember running my hands through the fabric and asking her about each item. She had wonderful stories to tell. My mother was definitely the fashionista out of the three of us. She always looked incredibly put together, had beautiful clothing and was often eyeing the finer garments in stores. She had quite a sense of style! I’ve saved a few bins of their clothing and plan to make a quilt for my daughter at some point, with clothing from the four of us. Ah, but that’s a project for another day……
