A weekend away….

Recently I attended my first ever meeting of the local chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild.  A friend mentioned it to me about a year ago and told me to check it out (it takes me a little while to do things sometimes!).  I have only made one full quilt and two attempted others but quilting is something I’d really like to start doing.  I decided to attend a meeting as a ‘guest’ and see what it was all about.  After walking in and seeing someone wearing the Beatrix top (see here) and a couple of Noodlehead’s Super Totes, I wanted to join.  Then almost everyone went around in a circle and talked (and showed) what they were working on.  These women are so talented and I was immediately inspired!  Everyone was super nice and of course I joined.  Many women had quilted name tags on so when I came home I got to work on one for myself.

Voila!

The group is planning a sewing weekend away and they had one spot left.  Yay!  I’m thrilled about it and all the sewing I am going to get done.  I started some quilt blocks this winter and I’m going to spend the weekend working on the quilt.  We are redoing our bedroom and a handmade quilt on the bed for the painting that may happen (soon?  I hope.) would be wonderful.  The quilt that I am working on is called the ‘Half Square Triangle (Scrappy Strings Style)’ from the Blooming Poppies blog.  It is perfect because you can use fabric scraps and, well, my scrap bin is out.of.control.  Plus, I don’t like to waste.

Speaking of not wasting, there is an inner pioneer women who wears big long skirts, beats her rugs outside and reuses everything…inside of me.  In that spirit and because I am always trying to bust through my scrap stash I made a few ‘Open Wide Zippered Pouches’ from the Noodlehead blog.  I up-cycled jeans for the bottoms and a skirt made for my daughter (that she didn’t care to wear and ended up in the scrap pile) for the tops.  I love to reuse old jeans and have a slight addiction to denim.  Plus, these would be great to stash all my sewing notions in when I am away sewing for the weekend.

This tall skinny one is essentially the large zippered pouch flipped sideways. Perfect for tossing in knitting projects and needles.

These totes are great!  The tutorial for them is very well written and I will be making a lot more.  I am planning to whip up a few more for the gift stash I have going on.

Have a great week!
