Another Market Bag

Hello! Have you read or listened to anything good lately?  I’d love to know what you are reading. I’m currently reading Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (here).  Our local library is reading this and doing a book club for it.  It’s not a book that I would normally read.  I’m more of a WWII / historical fiction reader and this book is post-apocolyptic/sci-fi. It flashes from the past to the present and tells a story from a woman who is in a traveling theater.  I like it a lot and have been able to check it out as an audio book and listen to it when I’m sewing.

Speaking of sewing, another project I worked on during my sewing weekend away (see here) was a couple of Market Bags from “Handmade Style’ by Anna Graham.  I really love these bags.  I’ve made one for a school auction (see here) and another as a gift.  These two I made just because.

Almost done!

This pattern is becoming a favorite and I love each variation that I make.  Since I haven’t even kept one yet, I decided one of these was going to be for me.  I chose the pink one although I equally love the gray one too!

Viola!

For the lining of the brown and pink bag, I used a pink and orange floral from my stash that I bought at Mardens a long time ago.  The brown is a lovely heathered linen that was also in my stash.  The various colors on the front are scraps that I love.  I did try a thinner leather strap this time (single sided) as I found the thicker straps recommended in the book a little hard to sew through.

Finished!

For the outside gray bag, I used linen from Joanne’s.  The lining is a favorite from my stash called ‘Nursery Versery’ by Heather Ross.  It’s gray with little pigs doing different little piggy things.  One little pig is wearing an orange bandana and has a market bag on her shoulder…which made me think of “one little piggy went to market” and figured it would be cute in an actual Market Bag.  🙂

This week I have been doing a lot of hand sewing.  I’m working on a few things from the “Alabama Studio Sewing + Design’ book (here).  I hope to be able to show you soon!
