Sunny Day….

Yesterday it was over 70 degrees here in parts of New England.  Of course, we had to take a quick trip to the beach and get our feet wet because it could be snowing tomorrow!  I don’t think I’ve ever been to the beach in this area (and gotten my feet wet!!!) in early March. Global warming is real folks, but yesterday I enjoyed the sunshine and a long bike ride and hitting the beach.  It gave me a taste of sunny skies ahead.

Speaking of sunny skies, I have just sewn my first pair of Sunny Day Shorts by the Oliver + S children’s pattern company.  This is a great, free shorts pattern, found on their website and I can’t believe I have never sewn this pattern before.  What a great pattern!  Since my son is often neglected in the handmade clothing department, I made a pair for him.  I used some leftover dark denim chambray from my stash and color blocked these shorts with ‘The Big One in Iron’ by Carolyn Friedlander from her Carkai collection.  This pattern is great as it is very basic with lots of room for embellishment.  I added two very big cargo style pockets, as my boy likes to collect cool things like rocks and leaves. Also, I added a little tag inside so he knows where the back of the shorts are.  Sorta helpful if you are learning to get dressed yourself!  I used a different colored thread to create a contrasting stitch right under the color-blocking but then used the same thread for the hem of the shorts.  I’m not sure that I like that color on the hem and will probably get my best friend, the seam ripper, and change the hem thread to a dark blue.  Perhaps I am being too picky?  Hmmmm….

I really like this pattern and I have several more pairs cut out.
